Canadian to get top soccer job

Canada’s next national men’s soccer coach will be homegrown.

Canadian Soccer Association president Colin Linford confirmed Monday that a Canadian will receive the post, but declined to identify who it will be, saying an official announcement will likely be made this week.

That means the nod will likely go to Vancouver native Dale Mitchell, currently the coach of the country’s under-20 squad and the only short-list candidate born in Canada.

Canada has been without a coach since Frank Yallop left the job last June to become coach of Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy, the team David Beckham has agreed to join.
