Wilderness protection bill gets Congress’ OK
We can’t fix the economy but we can save some land. And that’s OK. Really is is, we should do something.

The global peace conference scheduled to be in Johannesburg this week – to promote soccer and World Cup 2010 as instruments of harmony – probably seemed like a good idea.
The pressure to deny the Dali Lama’s visa, the subsequent fall-out (Nobel Peace prize laureates Archbishop Desmond Tutu and F.W. de Klerk, plus executive director of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Geir Lundestad – decided it wouldn’t be in their best interests to attend a sham conference), brought in more negative publicity and attention to the Tibetan plight than would have occurred had the Dali Lama attended the conference.
The whole thing was canceled in light of all the negative publicity. It’s hard to hold a peace conference with a straight face after that now isn’t it South Africa……..
Not the best pre World Cup publicity conservation.
